One of the most popular spots in the UP is Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore located near the town of Munising. It is a cute small town and a great base if you want to explore the surrounding areas of the Upper Peninsula.

The Upper Peninsula has camping options for everyone. From boondocking to RV parks and everything in between. Keep in mind, cell service is very limited once you are outside of town. So if that’s an important factor, these close to town campgrounds are a great place to call home while exploring the area.
RV Campgrounds in Munising MI
Bay Furnace Campground
Season: May 15 to Oct 5
Daily Rate: $22, $5 Dump station fee

This campground located in Christmas offers shaded rustic sites. Only minutes away from the Lake Superior shore with picnic tables and recreational areas on the lake. Not far from town, its the perfect place to feel far away, but not really.
They have non-electric RV Sites and rustic tent sites. Its close proximity to Grand Island by a 10-minute ferry ride, local attractions, boat tours and low costs make a first choice budget option for visiting the area. The campground does not have showers but it has toilets and water fill stations.
Munising Tourist Park Campground
Season: May 18 to Oct 1
Daily Rate: Starting at $35
A favorite city campground located on the shores of Lake Superior with 20/30/50 electric hook-ups, water and sewer. Many sites have a great view of Lake Superior. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire pit. Book as early as possible because the sites go fast. This is a great location for picturesque views of Lake Superior and easy access to downtown Munising. You can enjoy sunsets and sometimes even catch the Northern Lights.
Pictured Rock RV Park & Campground
Season: June 1 to Oct 1
Daily Rate: Starting at $45
Located in Christmas, this full hookup campground is big rig friendly. Amenities include free wifi, showers, laundry, fire ring and picnic area. It is Munising’s newest campground, so the shade trees are small, however its equipped with new and modern facilities. It is located near the Kawino Casino and only 5 miles from downtown Munising.

Munising Pictured Rocks KOA
Season: May 14 to Oct 23
Daily Rates: Starting at $46
Located just a few miles outside of Munising, this new KOA offers lodging, tent sites, rustic and 50amp full hookups. They have an outdoor pool that’s open from June 24th to Sept 5th. It is a great nearby family campground with a playground and swimming pool. You can sign up for KOA rewards and start earning points on your stay.
Silent Nights Campsites
Season: May to Oct
Daily Rates: Starting at $40
This is a small park with only four RV sites and self service check in. Each site has full hookups with 30amp power. The sites are big rigs friendly and include a fire ring and picnic table. Located walking distance to the Lake Superior shoreline and close to the town of Munising. The only con, there is not a bathroom, shower or laundry facility on site. We stayed at this campground, and really enjoyed it. The cell service is like most of the UP and is spotty.

Otter Lake Campground
Season: May 1 to September 30
Daily Rate: Starting at $35
Only 10 miles from downtown Munising, Otter Lake is located on 92 acres and surrounded by the Hiawatha National Forest. This campground has many amenities and direct access to the off road trail system. It’s an affordable option not far from town.
Newberry Campground (formally known as Newberry KOA)
Season: May 14 to September 30
Daily Rate: Starting at $50
This campground is located in Newberry, the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and considered the gateway to Tahquamenon Falls State Park. With a large heated outdoor pool, playground, basketball, arcade and ice cream, this one is a family favorite. It is located about 58 miles from Munising, however it is centrally located to other attractions on the east side of the peninsula.
Rippling River RV Resort
Season: Sites are available year round
Daily Rates: Starting at $69
Located in Marquette MI, just 43 miles from Munising. Marquette is the largest city in the Upper Peninsula. The campground has a bar/restaurant on site and lots of other amenities including a community campfire.
