Things to know about RV Parks on Hilton Head
Hilton Head RV Parks offer a resort style stay with great amenities and everything you would expect to find at a luxury RV resort. There are however only 2 RV Parks located on the island and there are restrictions on both.
So before you plan to camp on the island of Hilton Head, make sure your camping unit fits the requirements of the park. There are however other campgrounds nearby that meet or even exceed those on the island.
RV Park Restrictions on Hilton Head Island
First let stake a look at the two RV parks on HiltonHead Island in regard to restrictions:
- Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort: This resort is a Motorcoach resort, that means that only Class A and Class C motorhomes are aloud. And if the motorhome is older than 10 years it needs management approval to stay. So if you travel with anything other than a class A or class C motorhome, you are not permitted to stay here.
- Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort: This resort does not allow camping units with slide outs. They do allow, travel trailers, 5th wheels and motorcoaches, although it can not have a slide out. The length must be under 35 feet long and 8 feet wide. So if you do not fit these requirements, do not reserve here.
So with all that being said, not every unit is permitted to camp on the island. If you want to be as close to Hilton Head Island as possible but your unit is not permitted to stay at one of the two resorts on the island, your best choice is the Hilton Head National RV Resort.
So lets take a look at all the options at RV parks near Hilton Head SC.

Hilton Head RV Motorcoach Resort
One of only two RV Parks on the Island. This Motorcoach only park offers beautiful sites with full hookups, cable, wifi, landscaped concrete pads, swimming pool, hot tub, fitness center, laundry facilities, pickle ball and tennis courts, dog park and more!
Located just a mile from the ocean and a short walk to the grocery store and restaurants. An ideal location for convenient access to sights, beaches and the bike paths around the island.
This luxury resort has gated access and is a number one choice if you are traveling by motorcoach to Hilton Head Island.
Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort & Marina
The second RV park on the island is Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort located on the north end of Hilton Head Island. This great RV Park is located on the Intracoastal waterway. Its a beautiful waterside resort both waterfront sites and interior sites.
They have top-notch amenities including swimming pool, marina, fitness center, laundry room, bath house, large shade trees, cable, wifi and on-site excellent dining. The RV park is a convenient location to the array of activities Hilton Head has to offer.
Here the RV sites are individually owned so they may differ slightly in appearance. Every site has vegetation for privacy, a concrete pad, full hook ups and some have patio furniture. They do offer better rates with long term stays. However with the recent rule change about travel trailers and slide outs, make sure your rig fits into this category, because you will not be refunded if you show up and are not compliant.
Hilton Head National RV Resort
The newest RV park in the Hilton Head area is Hilton Head National RV Resort. This new resort is just a short drive to get to the island. We stayed here on our visit and loved it! They have an accommodating and very friendly staff. You check in at the main gate and then are escorted to your site. The park is big rig friendly with easy access into all the sites. And they all have a fire pit and picnic tables.
This resort is truly a relaxing getaway. The amenities include a swimming pool with lazy river, golf cart rentals, fitness center, laundry facilities, clean restrooms with showers, beautiful club house, nice restaurant, basketball court, large playground and pickleball courts.
When you check in you are required to place a credit card on file. Then you will receive a key card that gives you access to the amenities at the RV Park. You can also use it to charge to your card. So it really feels like a vacation stay. There is also a discount to play golf at the National Golf Course located on property .
It is a family friendly resort, however you can pay to stay in the adult only area. this area has its own amenities and can only be accessed by those who stay in that area.
Overall, this is one of the nicest RV Parks we have ever stayed at.
Hardeeville RV
For a long term less expensive option, consider Hardeeville RV Park. At this time they only offer monthly stays. Its located about 30 minutes outside of Hilton Head Island.
Savannah Lakes RV Resort
Located about 35 minutes from Hilton Head, this new campground is taking reservations starting August 2023. Offering full hook ups sites with lots of amenities and a brand new clubhouse and facilities, it should be among the best places to stay while visiing the area. And its only about 20 minutes form downtown Historic Savannah. So, its convenient to two destinations.
Red Gate Farms RV Resort
This is the closet campground to downtown Savannah and about 1 hour from Hilton Head. Its a cute historic farm and event space that also hosts a small campground. The grounds are really lovely with walking trails and lots of open space. They offer grass and gravel sites with full hook ups.
Lake Jasper RV Village
Another newer campground in the area is Lake Jasper RV Village. Located minutes off of I95, tucked back in woods on a lake setting. They offer full hook ups and gravel or sand sites will modern amenities. Has received great reviews for amenities, cleanliness and staff.
Whippoorwill Farms | Camp On The Farm
This cute little farm stay offers tent sites, full hookup sites and dry camping for Harvest Hosts Members (see below for Harvest Host Membership details and discount). Its a real working farm so they have a strict NO DOGS policy. So please do not try to stay here if you travel with dogs.
Tuck in the Wood
Located on St Helena Island, about 45 minutes from HiltonHead. This no reservations family campground offers many water sports activities along with modern amenities in a woodsy state park kind of setting.
Yemassee KOA Holiday
Located near I95 and not more than 65 miles to Savannah, Hilton Head or Charleston. This highly rated KOA offers pizza delivery to your site and also has a wine bar. It has everything you would expect from a KOA and more!
