During our visit to South Padre Island we ate at many restaurants and from our experience, these are our top ranked choices. So, we put together this guide, with everything you need to know about the best places to eat in South Padre Island Texas.

South Padre Island Food Scene

If you love fresh seafood, then South Padre Island is the perfect place for you. This barrier island offers a great selection of the freshest seafood in Texas. With dining options ranging from fine dining, fast casual, to dive bars and everything in between. And even some restaurants with views of beautiful beaches and sunsets, so there’s a variety of dining options.

Live entertainment is also found through out the island. So you have the option of music either before, during or after dinner. Pair that with a great atmosphere, friendly service and amazing food, well then you have the perfect experience.  And while most dining establishments are great for the whole family, there are some beach bars that might be better suited for spring breakers, but the entire family is welcome.

The SPI restaurant scene has a great vibe, delicious food and a wide variety of food selections. So even if you’re not a seafood lover, there are still many land options for you!

Regardless if you are a South Padre Island visitor or resident, I think you’ll agree these are some of the best places to eat in South Padre Island.

Best places to eat in South Padre Island

1. Yummies Bistro $$

Address: 700 Padre Boulevard, SPI

Serving: Breakfast Menu and Lunch Menu

Indoor and Outdoor Seating, Pet Friendly

Don’t let the strip mall appearance fool you, because Yummies Bistro lives up to its name. This popular place is also loved by local residents. So make sure to arrive early for breakfast, especially on the weekends or be prepared to wait.

They have a great menu with so many selections you could go back everyday for a week and order breakfast and lunch and not order the same thing twice. We ordered the avocado toast, eggs and french toast and all of it was very good. The staff was also great. So, I would highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast or lunch.

2. Joe’s Oyster Bar $$

Address: 207 E Maxan St, Port Isabel

Serving: Lunch and Dinner Menu Items

No Outdoor Seating, Not Pet Friendly

Joe’s Oyster Bar is not on South Padre Island, it’s located across the bridge in Port Isabel. It is however worth the short drive. The restaurant is connected to a seafood market that sells a variety of fresh local seafood and packaged frozen seafood. So its also great place to pick up items if you’ll be cooking at home.

From the outside, the appearance is unassuming. And the inside decor is simple yet satisfactory. However this little seafood restaurant is another favorite among the locals.

The menu is small as they mostly serve fish, shrimp, oyster or crab either fried or grilled . With that being said, if you’re not a seafood fan, this may not be your best choice for a restaurant.

You order at the counter and the food is brought to the table. Meals are served on disposable plates with plastic cutlery, so its a very casual experience but surprisingly good. We ordered the grilled gulf shrimp platter and the grilled combo platter of fish, shrimp and oysters served with french fries and tartar sauce. The grilled shrimp was definitely the favorite with the grilled oysters to follow.

It is a local family business and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

3. The Cafe On The Beach $$

Address: 3616 Gulf Blvd, SPI

Serving: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Outdoor Dining Only, Beach View, Dogs Permitted in some areas

Located off the main drag and tucked away in the back of The Palms Hotel you will find The Cafe on The Beach. Its a small, casual and quaint beachside cafe with an outdoor fully shaded pavilion. They do have additional tables with umbrellas where pets are allowed.

You can enjoy classic American dishes with a nice view of the beach just beyond the sand dunes.  They serve everything from breakfast classics to steak dinners an also have a full bar. We only had the opportunity to have dinner here, but heard they also have a great breakfast.

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily with happy hour M-F from 2-6pm.

4. Coconut Jacks $$

Address: 2301 Laguna Blvd, SPI

Serving: Drinks and Dinner Only

All Outdoor Seating with Fully Shaded Pavilion and Umbrellas, Dog Friendly, Laguna Madre Views

Coconuts Jacks is basically a beach bar but with better food. We really like it because of the live entertainment and sunset views. Every time we’ve eaten there it has been good. Just note, they do not come to your table and serve you, so you have to order at the bar.

They have a decent happy hour, variety of drinks and good selection of food choices. I have had both the shrimp and fish tacos and they were really good. We have also had the burger and their french fries are delicious.

With live music every night of the week, its a fun place to go! It can get a little loud if you are near the speaker and sometimes its hard to hear your food order being called out, but other than that, its a good place to have a margarita and watch the sunset. Its located on the Laguna Madre side of the island, so the sunsets are amazing!

5. F & B $$$

Address: 3109 Padre Blvd, SPI

Serving: Dinner Only, Closed Monday

Indoor Dining and Outdoor Dog Friendly Patio

F & B is among the top restaurants on SPI. So, if you want something a little upscale and more of a foodie kind of place, this it.  With a nice craft cocktail list and unique creative food dishes that taste as good as they look, receiving a high customer rating is not by chance.

F & B only offers dinner service. They previously offered Sunday brunch too. For our dining experience, we started with the seasonal cauliflower soup, which was very good. And for dinner, we ordered the Seafood Pappardelle and Smoked Duck Breast. And if its still on the menu, I would preorder for dessert the key lime souffle, because it was delicious!

Our entire experience was a delight and our server who was very attentive, made our evening that much better. It was a 5 star experience for sure. For me, F&B is one of the best restaurants on the island.

6. The Meatball Cafe $$

Address: 2412 Padre Blvd

Serving: Lunch and Dinner

Indoor and Fully Shaded Outdoor Dining, Dog Friendly

When you get tired of seafood or just feel like a little Italian, then be sure to stop and have lunch or dinner at The Meatball Cafe.  At this family owned Italian restaurant you can dine indoor or outdoor on their newly designed patio where they have fans outside to help cool you down when its hot.

Offering a nice variety of classic Italian dishes and wine selection, this place is definitely a local favorite. We enjoyed the pizza, and salad with added protein and it was a lot of food. Dining at Meatballs makes beach fine dining fun!

7. Sea Ranch $$$

Address: 1 Padre Blvd

Serving: Dinner Only

Indoor Dining with Marina Views

Sea Ranch is another option for more of an upscale dining experience. They have a great selection of, well you guessed it, seafood, but they also have some of the best selections of land options on the island.

One thing really unique abut Sea Ranch is they offer a cook your catch entree. So if you spend the day at sea catching your dinner, you can bring it in for them to cook. With options such as, blackened, grilled, encrusted and it also comes with sides.

Sea Ranch is a nice dinner experience with a water view. A few of my favorite dishes are the coconut shrimp and shrimp cocktail. They also make a really nice dirty vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives.

Sea Ranch has been serving visitors for over 34 years, so this long standing restaurant lives up to its reputation.
